Kart Classes

This page is under construction, not all information has been inputted.

Hill Country Kart Club's classes range from the age of 5 and up, with varying classes that offer great racing while allowing you a comfortable experience as your skill level increases.  Below is a list of the class types raced, the age range, recommended gearing, and other basic info to help you decide all that karting has to offer.  From Touch-and-Go (TaG) classes, 80cc/125cc Shifter, to low-cost 4-strokes.

Our bracket racing system used for the Jr 8-11, Jr 12-15, and Senior Bracket is better explained here.

Kid Karts - Attained age of 5 through competition age of 8.

This is the youngest class, with the Comer 50cc 2-stroke engine and kid kart chassis young racers get their start here.  Low-horsepower around 1.8hp

Gearing:

Cadet Kart Classes

Yamaha Jr I - competition age 8 through 11.

Yamaha KT-100 100cc 2-stroke engine

Gearing: 10-tooth clutch driver / 91-tooth rear sprocket

TaG Junior Rookie - competition age 8 through 12.

Parilla Gazelle 60cc electric start engine

Gearing: 10-tooth driver | Rear sprocket 92/89-tooth  (92 is good for new racers to start out with)

Tire Pressure:  MG Yellow - around 20psi in normal conditions (as low as 14psi in hot summer conditions, up to 28psi in cold weather) | Bridgestone - no data

Junior Brackets 8-11 - competition age 8 through 11 (local option class).

In this bracket class you can run any legal IKF engine package for this age group, and the karts will be placed into groupings based on qualifying times.  Our bracket classes offer great racing as the racers will be separated into 1.5 seconds or less groupings, these groups will then race as if they were their own class.  Bracket 1 will not intermix with Bracket 2 racers for example, unless you go .5 seconds quicker than the pole time for that grouping.  If you breakout, you lose points for that heat and start scratch in the faster bracket.  Brackets are good for rookie drivers just learning the sport, or experienced racers alike.

In this class you can run engines like one of the Briggs 4-strokes, or a Rotax Mini-Max.  While this is not a spec class like the classes listed above, for the Juniors they must be IKF legal engines and will be subject to tech based on those specs.

Junior Classes

Yamaha Jr SS - competition age 12 through 15.

Yamaha KT-100 100cc 2-stroke, the same engine used in the Jr 1 class; however, this class runs without a restrictor and larger RLV SSX Super Box Muffler - making this class a natural stepping stone from the Jr 1 class with increased power from the engine and higher speeds.

Gearing:

TaG Junior - competition age 13 through 15.

1. Parilla Leopard 125cc Jr. 2 – restricted per manufacturers specs. Must use 15mm IAME intake restrictor and 25mm exhaust restrictor / 315 lbs.
2. Parilla Leopard 125cc Jr. 3 – restricted with 25mm exhaust restrictor / 320 lbs.
3. Rotax FR125 Jr. Max – per manufacturers specs / 330 lbs.

Gearing:

Chonda Jr II - competition age 12 through 15 (local option class).

A great class for new racers in this age category, using a clone Honda engine that offers a great entry price even with a new engine package.  Low maintenance, lower speeds compared to the TaG Junior class, while still promoting close racing and a good platform for learning chassis tuning.
